June Integral Salon - An Integral Inquiry into the Heart of Sex, Gender and Sexuality

June 21, 2010 - 7:00pm - 9:30pm

This presentation will offer a unique look into the process, ideas, relationships and personal journey that have shaped the creation and emergence of my recently co-edited anthology: Sex, Gender and Sexuality: The Birth of a Critical Integral Inquiry. SUNY Press is currently dedicating a whole series for anthologies devoted to the application of Integral theory in a diverse range of fields and disciplines, and this anthology, which I have co-edited with integral feminist scholar, Sarah Nicholson, will be part of that line-up.

In this presentation, I will offer a broad overview of the contributors and topics covered in our anthology, as well as the central conflicts and debates in the field of sex, gender and sexuality, which have emerged in the Integral world over the last decade. Our book is unique and controversial in that it includes both authoritative voices within the Integral community on these subjects—for example, Ken Wilber, Warren Farrell, Elizabeth Debold, Diane Musho Hamilton, Marc Gafni, Robert Masters, Claire Zammit and Katherine Woodward-Thomas—as well as outside critical scholars and practitioners who are challenging and pushing forward the integral paradigm in relation to these topics.

After a broad overview of the topics and conflicts in our book, I will hone in on some more focused areas of interest to me, specifically the chapter in the anthology which I co-wrote in dialogue with Diane Musho Hamilton, entitled: Evolving Our Approach to Sexual Harassment: A New Role for Women. I will then move us into a experiential exercise and discussion of the material presented to conclude the evening.

Don't forget to invite your friends to the Introduction to Integral Theory at 7:00pm!

This is a great opportunity to introduce new people to the integral model.

On Monday, June 21, from 7:00-7:30pm, the Vancouver Integral Salon will provide an introduction to integral theory in the Centre for Peace. This is an opportunity for those new to integral theory, or those who want a simple overview to refresh their understanding of the integral model.

This is for new people, and people bringing new people, or anyone wanting a review.

We are developing this orientation so that people new to the salon get a grounding in the basic AQAL map, so they are not lost in the salon presentation. We have noticed in the past that when new people came, and felt lost, that they had needless suffering and they rarely came back. So we want to reduce the suffering.

Also the presenter had to take extra time going over the map. Now they will know that everyone is coming in with a basic understanding.

So do your friends a service, and send them early.

Doors will open for the main Salon at 7:25pm
